Stress relief games for groups

If you have ever had to stand up in front of people or be a team leader for s small group either at work or some other situation then I am sure you have felt nervous and anxious (I know I have and I knew most of them. However, in my experience, you will also find that everyone else in that group also feels a bit nervous and anxious,. This is why starting of with an ice breaker game of any type can be really good to put people (including you) at ease. Below are a couple of quick and easy stress relief games that will help break up the tension and get you going with a bang.

Stress Relief Games for Groups #1: c If I Were A…

This is a really simple one. Start of by sitting in a circle and then the team leader starts of by saying something like “If you were an animal, what kind of animal would you be?” . This can be to the person to his left or right depending which way you want to go round the circle. The person next to him then has to answer the question and also say why

Once they have answered the question they then have to aks the person to his or her right another question in the same vein, such as, “If you were a famous writer, which writer would you be?”

This then continues until everyone has had a chance to both answer a questio0n and ask a question.

Some examples could be
• A piece of fruit
• An historical figure
• A household object
• A cartoon character
• Any other off the wall group you can think of!
I would be a pineapple as I am exotic, sweet and zingy.
I would be a whisk as I like to stir things up.
I would be Taz as I rush around like a crazy creatur

Stress Relief Games for Groups #2: Who am I?

This is a great game for any number of people. Choose some famous characters such as Bart Simpson, The Queen, Baden Powell etc and write them on separate pieces of paper. Now stick one piece of paper to each person in the room back. The object of the game is that you have to round and ask people a question to an establish who you are but they can only answer yes or no.

Stress Relief Games for Groups #3: Liar, Liar

Have each member of the group take turns making three statements about themselves. Two of those statements should be true; one should be false. The rest of the group then has to guess which statement is a lie.

Stress Relief Games for Groups #4: Gossip

This is a great game to play if your group has anything to do with communication. To work best, the group should have at least ten people, and no more 20. The leader starts by whispering a long, convoluted sentence into the ear of the person on his or her right. That person then whispers what he/she heard to the next person, and so forth. When the whisper has gone all the way around the circle, ask the last person who heard it to tell the group what they heard. Then tell the group what you originally said. The two sayings are all but guaranteed to be very different!

Stress Relief Games for Groups #5 Stand Up, Sit Down

Start off with two participants standing back to back. Then ask them to lock their arms together. Instruct them to sit down and stand up without letting go of each others arms (this is a lot harder than it sounds). Every time they get to a standing position add another participant to the game. The more participants involved the harder the game becomes. This ice breaker game requires a lot of team co-operation and patience

Stress Relief Games for Groups #6 . Throw the ball

This game is an uncomplicated ice breaker that gets the team working together and learning names quickly. Ask the team to sit down and form a circle. Produce a ball and instruct the participants to throw the ball around the circle. Before throwing the ball they must call out the person’s name they are throwing it to. The game must speed up as it progresses. You can add sporting element to the game to make it more interesting by explaining that anyone who drops the ball must run around the circle and return to their seat. This fun game can be played for as long as you like
